Seattle Washington June 2003 – Today, Lee Drechsel, the Chief Executive Officer of Camp Fire USA Central Puget Sound Council announced a leadership gift of $500,000 from Janet Green Hunter & Richard Hunter to The Campaign for Camp Fire. This donation will help support the renovation and transformation of Camp Sealth and Camp Niwana into year-round facilities, to provide for future maintenance and to create a scholarship endowment. This is the largest private donor gift in the history of Camp Fire USA Central Puget Sound Council.
“The lessons learned and friendships formed as a member of Camp Fire have made a huge impact on my life as an adult. I hold dear memories of going to camp, working on projects with my fellow BoHoPi group members and the support my mother gave us as the leader. It was an incredible experience. This gift was my way of giving back to Camp Fire and the community, as well as honoring my wonderful mother Eleanor Green,” said Janet Green Hunter.
More than two million children have passed through Camp Fire’s portals since 1911. Plans for the camps include weatherization and restoration of buildings, and expansion of the environmental education program, which was put into place to assist schools in meeting the state mandate.
Camp Fire USA is a nationwide nonprofit youth development agency that serves over 650,000 participants in 41 states. Founded in 1910, Camp Fire builds caring, confident youth and future leaders. Local branch offices in Bremerton, Redmond, Kent and Seattle serve more than 17,000 boys and girls, ages 5 to 18.
